{UYM Runway} What are you wearing?

Written By: Angela Ridsdale

What are you wearing?

A thought crossed my mind this morning as I was sitting there. Modesty is not just about what you wear out of the house. Modesty isn’t just about how you dress in public but also how you are dressing when you are completely alone.

Consider yourself for a moment have you ever thought I’m not going anywhere or seeing anyone so I will just wear whatever I can find lying around? This may seem like a completely harmless concept. But now think about how many snap chat photos you sent around in that “just around the house outfit” or maybe the thoughts that may have crossed your mind when putting on that outfit.

Personally, I can say that I have worn some very short shorts around the house even shorter dresses. And I can even say that thoughts went through my mind saying wow you look pretty good. Your legs look pretty good maybe you should wear these shorts out of the house. I can tell you that these are not my own thoughts. The more I let these thoughts seep into my mind the more I feel like its o.k. to wear my around the house clothes out.

I’m encouraging you ladies to think this thought for a moment.

{Gratefulness Week} Freely given grace.

A week of gratefulness

Written By: Angela Ridsdale

I believe that gratefulness stems from knowledge. The knowledge that you have things, much more than materials like clothes or cars. But of the things that are not easily bought. The talent you find within yourself, the forgiveness you can share with others, even the grace that has been freely given to you.

These are not things we think about daily. But are things we should be so grateful for. When you truly know what you have and have been given you can start to conceptualize what being grateful is really about. Personally, I get so caught up in this world and what I don’t have that I completely miss this concept. That the God of this universe has given me something so powerful as grace!

“Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God.”   Hebrews 12:28

Over the past few months I have really learned to show the love that I have been given and God has been teaching me this in extraordinary ways. Working with people who may not be able to do the same basic abilities that I can do has shown me not to take my life for granted. But, to thank God for everything I do easily like walking, eating, dressing and even speaking. When you know what you have. You know what you can give to others, especially to those who may not have what you do. Above all else I am grateful that I can show love on a daily basis to those who may need it the most.

I encourage you all to take a look at life and know that you have a lot to give even when it seems small. Love has been given to you and you have the ability to show that same love to others.

“My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God.” 1 John 4:7

{UYM Runway} Made New.

Written By: Angela Ridsdale

Don’t let the summer and heat be an excuse for skipping out on modesty this season.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-29

This passage should not be taken lightly. Consider the words I am not my own, for I have been made new. You are made new in Christ and I encourage you to think this way when getting dressed for the day! This season yields a lot of tops, which are very practical for the summer heat but definitely not modest. This includes a lot of crop tops….To be honest with you I own some of these crop tops but I wear them a little differently than most. I pair them with bottoms that are high waisted and actually cover up the areas intended to be shown by them.

Keep in mind, however, not all high waisted bottoms are going to reach the bottom of the crop tops. If you choose to try this trend always opt for a longer top just in case. Or layer up! Layering is a great way to keep yourself modest with anything you choose to wear. Try a cami under a normally too short top or even under a shirt with minimal sleeves.

If you are worried about being too hot when layering try wearing things hat are not as tight and more flowing.  Remember what you wear should make you feel comfortable so find out what that is and go with it.

“For everything in the world, comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and it’s desires pass away but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:16-17

Until Next Time,

~Angela

{EVENT} Inspiring Girls Night…

Written By: Kerrington Sweeney

Our very first Girls Outreach event was such a wonderful success! Thank you to everyone who poured in lots of time (My Family and The UYM Team)

To those who donated such beautiful items to this event, we wouldn’t have been able to bless these girls and women without you! Also a HUGE warm Thank you, to all our guests who came out to show your support!

Thank you Inspired Christian Storehouse for the use of your beautiful facility and for believing so-highly in our Women’s Ministry.

Angela Ridsdale, one of our Monthly-Writers captured this night through the lenses of her camera…and for that we are all so very grateful!

What a memorable night it truly was, for us all.

01

Our very first “UYM Ministry Table.” Looking forward to using all this cute stuff again at other events. It was the perfect place for the young girls and ladies to sign up for, daily emails of encouragement from our blog and just to read a bit more about our ministry.

04

I had seen this idea done at a couple women’s conferences over the past few years and just had to have this at our girls event. The Bathroom Mirror of Encouragement!

09

Weekly Writer, Joceline Sweeney planned a super-fun game to start off the night with some laughs. The girls and ladies just loved it! Great memories.

UYM Worship, Featuring Olivia Wilson & Drew Pouget. Incredible time spent worshipping Our King. Such a deep love for worship was brewing that night.

08              13

While we were worshipping together, My Sister Ireland Sweeney was prophetically painting, a beautiful master-piece of artwork, to give to one of the ladies that night. Such a talented young lady.

05

A quick picture of myself, taking a moment simply soaking it all in… I couldn’t believe it, Our very first event was here! God is so good.

11    14

Myself and Weekend-Writer, Rachel Shaw had the opportunity to Guest-Speak that night. We spoke together to the ladies on Love, Relationships, and Season of Waiting.

Everything was beautiful that night! We are so blessed, to be continuing to serve God with our whole hearts. We are made with one true sole purpose, and that is knowing Him, and making His name known.

Looking forward to hosting another Girls Outreach Event soon!

{UYM Runway} Summer Sensations!

Written by: Angela Ridsdale

IMG_2840One of the hardest things to do in my daily routine is to get dressed. As I start to look into my closet many thoughts run through my head.

Does this look okay? Am I comfortable? Is this okay for the weather? Am I covered and acceptable? Is this outfit going to change my path on the journey I want to be on with God?

And that’s just on the days when I can stop and think before the rush of my daily lifestyle. I’ll admit sometimes I lose sight of what it’s all about. I put my own comfort first not realizing how that may be affecting others around me and ultimately my relationship with God.

As the summer presses forward we, as women of God, are faced with the hard battle of being comfortable, weather permitting, and modest. Which is really hard when the culture that surrounds us is probably thinking the exact opposite. Especially when the stores follow suit. Keep this in mind when you are picking an outfit for the day:

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” ~Ephesians 5:3

Since, maxi skirts and dresses are becoming a trend it may make our summer easier! outfit 5outfit 1

They are fun, flowy, and simply modest. Since the summer is hot always make sure to get skirts and dresses of a lighter material so that it doesn’t become too much on a hot day. Sometimes with lighter skirts and dresses I have found that they are see-through. And a majority of the time the built-in slips never go far down the legs.

outfit 2I would highly recommend adding a slip to your wardrobe! It can add inches to dresses and skirts that were never long enough before and will help you too keep your sanity and the clothes you love. outfit 4

outfit3Or if you are crafty and are up to a challenge you could add fabric to the bottoms of clothes to make them longer yourself.

“She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” ~ Proverbs 31:23

Until Next Time,

~Angela
